Hatfield Call Centre takes pledges for Children in Need
Residents in Herts, Beds and Bucks donated more than £65,000 to the BBC's annual Children in Need appeal via the Three Valleys Water Hatfield call centre last Friday night.
A team of more than 100 volunteers, comprising a mix of Three Valleys Water staff, family and friends, spent the night answering phones and taking pledges from the public on behalf of the appeal.
The volunteers took thousands of calls during the night from the local area, while nationally the BBC’s Children in Need appeal raised more than £11 million and counting.
Managing Director Andy Smith said: “This is the sixth year that Three Valleys Water has taken part in the Children in Need appeal by opening up its call centre and our enthusiastic volunteers were pleased to be able to play their part in this worthwhile national appeal.”
The BBC's first broadcast appeal for children was a five-minute radio programme on Christmas Day in 1927 and since 1980 it has been a live radio and television appeal .
The mission of the charity is to positively change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK and create a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential.
